Little critters...

Just a couple of shots (taken with the macro lens) that Jason has taken over the last couple of days of the little critters hanging around our house...

Check out the ants hanging off this little guy...

Jason's day at the drags...

Last weekend Jason headed off to Kwinana Motorplex to the drag racing with our friend Nathan (Sandy's partner) while I did pilates and met Sandy for a swim and a milkshake at the chocalatier up at Hillarys.

Now as I am writing this blog there's not a lot that I can say about the actual drag racing... but Jason had a great time. Nathan had some friends actually racing so it meant that they had pit passes, so could get closer to the action than the general public. Earlier in the day there's a lot of racing for all types/classes of cars, and it finished up with the nitro racing.

As well as getting his petrol head fix, I think that Jason came home with more ideas about what he could do with Betty... in fact at one stage he did say "did you know its only about $20,000 to set a car up for drag racing and then just $2000 a year after that"... I'll let you all imagine my response.

Anyway, I've done a couple of collages of the day for you.
I must admit, although spending a day at the drags doesn't appeal to me at all... I do like this photo series...

Work fundraising event...

A few weeks ago my work did a fundraising event for the Christchurch Earthquake and the Queensland floods. It was a pot luck lunch with different food/drink responsibilities being allocated to sub teams. We all paid $15 to the fund and supplied the food/drinks. My team were in charge of the dessert and soft drinks.

Although I couldn't eat the lunch being pregnant (lots of soft cheeses, cold salads, meats etc), I got behind the event and our team set to planning what we were going to do. After a while we decided to do an ice cream sundae bar, with heaps of fun toppings.

Here is the finished product (although the ice cream was still in the freezer at this stage). We got a little something for everyone, from- Mixed berries, MnMs, marshmallows and cherries to chocolate sauce, caramel sauce, chopped nuts and wafers. I can't forget the cream, or the 4 different types of ice cream/frozen yoghurt either.

All in all the sundae bar went down a treat (excuse the pun) and the IMO raised $800 for two good causes. A great way to spend a Friday I say!

Sculpture by the sea 2011

Each year Cottesloe Beach is transformed during the Sculpture By the Sea exhibition. During the weekend we took Jason's parents down to have a look (along with the 30,000 other people). Now some of the pieces I didn't really understand (art truly is in the eye of the beholder), but there were others that were great.

Here is a choice of a few of the best exhibits.

This was my favourite sculpture of all of them.

This sculpture was scary to me :-) and a little confronting.

This next exhibit brings a new meaning to "sand shoes"...

So all in all a good outing, although I would have preferred a few less people! But it was a lovely day and great to do something different. Its also been a while since I have felt like taking photos so I enjoyed having some new subject matter.

Happy Birthday Jason

So with Australia putting on a public holiday for Jason's birthday, Jason's parents coming all the way over to Perth to wish him Happy Birthday in person, and very limted budget I knew I had my work cut out for me in terms of making the day special for Jason.

His present (although not a bar on last year's present part 1 and part 2) was a Himalyan Cedar Bonsai tree and a bottle of Jim Beam... but it really wasn't much to make the day special...anyway, I was wanting a good excuse to start practicing my kids birthday cake making skills... and Jason's birthday was a perfect one. So here goes my first novelty birthday cake... its a dinosaur in case you were wondering... and its not a reflection on Jason being 32 now :-)And here's the birthday boy himself... tucking into the cake - the evidence is there for anyone to see.

A few things for Poppy...

So I have been promising some nursery shots for a wee while now... so here they are. We are renting in Perth so no painting the walls in nice bright colours... but we are pleased with how it is all looking.

We have been very good and have really only bought things in sales (and around 30 - 70% off) but the one thing that wasn't on sale and that I didn't negotiate on was the moses basket (instead of the more traditional bassinet). This is in our bedroom for those first few months. We already have a lovely sleigh cot (that transitions into a toddler bed) as well, which we were pleased to pick up second hand off eBay.
So although we are not allowed to paint the walls we were allowed to put some removable stickers up... We also have a great, colourful Noah's ark mobile.
And finally, some teddies for little baby Papps already. The two big teddies (the black one is called Bobo) are home made from my mum, the cow is from Jason's sister Melissa, the little blue dog (Spot) is from Jason's other sister Leza, the little brown bear (softest bear ever) is from Jason's mum, the monkey is something we picked up at the target sale and the tiniest blue bear (Bluey) is Jason's from when he was a baby.
We also have a lot of knitwear (lucky it does get a little cold in winter in Perth), and some lovely clothes/blankets/books from friends and family, than you to the following:

  • both my parents and Jason's parents;
  • the Townsville Dalziells;
  • the Hayeks;
  • the Rotorua Tickelpenny's;
  • Sandy and Nathan (and Frank the Tank);
  • Blossom and Kate;
  • Angela;
  • Natalie and Deano; and
  • Jason's boss.
The gifts will mean that little Baby Papps look super stylish in those first few months!!!

We have also got maybe a month's worth of nappies and baby wipes ready to go and each week with the groceries I have been stocking up on those more expensive grocery items (as they come on special) i.e. washing powder and fabric softener, dishwasher tablets, house cleaning products, personal care items (shaving cream, body wash and shampoo etc) and toilet paper. Just trying to get a little ahead while we still have two incomes. I have around 8 more weeks of work to go now, so I should be able to get a good stock up on all these products.

28 week photo and bump progression

Sorry about the delay in posting this, after the tragic news from Christchurch I really wasn't in the mood for blogging. Anyway, this photo was taken Sunday 20 February- so 28 weeks and 1 day along. I have grown a bit in the past week as well!!!

My next photo will be 30 weeks... 3/4 of the way there (and it will be just 70 days to go).

and just so you can see the progression through the weeks, we have made all the belly photos into a slideshow for you. We will keep updating this as we go.

Poppy's Heart Rate

So Jason and I have a fetal Heart Rate monitor so that we can listen to Poppy's heart beat as often as we want to (its pretty cool). Today we decided to record it and make it into a little movie for you all to hear. We set it to the scan pictures.

We had just been for a walk which usually lulls Poppy to sleep, so when we took this heart beat clip Poppy's heart rate was sitting around 135bpm, when he/she is up and active it sits around 145bpm. It slows down during the movie as Poppy moved a little and I had to find the heart rate again.

Milestone

Just a really, really quick update tonight. Today we hit a milestone that we have been waiting a while for... we now have just 99 days to go until Poppy is expected to be born. I can't believe that I have been pregnant for 167 days!!!
